  • Laughter feeds love, so let’s laugh a lot.

When I was twenty I travelled to France, it was there with a cheap point and shoot camera and seven rolls of film that I found a love for photography and giving that fleeting moment a little immortality. That summer led me to expand my education in photography at Sheridan College, Ontario, Canada and Savannah College of Art and Design, Georgia, USA.
Two years later I founded ALT Designs and was commissioned by Thurston Design Studios to assist in the expansion of their Real Estate Marketing Business. After three years mastering skills and technique in digital photography, I moved with my husband, Mike and dog, Brea to the Kitchener Waterloo area. This along with the birth of my gorgeous daughter {often seen on the blog}, Emalee had me exploring new paths for my creativity.
With the best inspiration, Em, it was pretty clear that Children's Photography felt like "home". With every image created, I try to take a genuine and unique approach. I want to give you and your children an experience to remember and a collection of beautiful artwork to cherish for many, many years!

As colourful as his moroccan roots – newborn photography

This handsome little man is a cool, laid back two month old if I’ve ever seen one! His mom and dad’s calm, nurturing personalities are rubbing off and the fact that they are gaga over him and shower him with kisses and love sure make a lasting impression.
It was a cool winter afternoon so we concluded it was best to stay warm in the comfort of their home for our first session. I will get the opportunity to hang out with this great bunch again in the spring for our next photo shoot. Eli will be about six months old and post-surgery. I send my warmest wishes to all of you over the Christmas season and will be thinking about you in the New Year. Such a strong little man will bounce back in no time and be ready for his next close-up in a flash, can’t wait!
Thanks for trusting in me to capture the true essence of your family life, it was a pleasure. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Laughter feeds love – Toronto family photography

Gorgeous, fun and up for anything, now that’s my idea of a great family session! The laughs they had together were a sign of a tight knit bunch, laughter is the best therapy. As the title says and you’ll often hear me say, laughter feeds love and I firmly believe that. I appreciate people who have a love for life and are willing to share that excitement with me. With Teagh and Carys being less than two years apart, it’s no wonder they are so close. Granted asking them to hold hands and hug took a bit of convincing but I remember what it’s like to be brother and sister, you can love each other from a distance to avoid cooties. All you had to say to get a laugh out of Teagh was “underpants”, apparently that’s what he’ll be getting his mom for Christmas! Guess that’s why they come up with Captain Underpants, there is nothing funnier to a six year old boy. Carys was clearly the ham of the family, always posing as soon as she saw the camera was aimed at her, can you blame her, look at those bright blue eyes. She is a great mix of her mom and dad. Brooke and Tim, thank you so much for inviting me into your family for the day, it was a pleasure getting to know you and your beautiful children. Happy Holidays!
Oh and I almost forgot… I have to mention Teagh’s shoelaces, I LOVE the neon yellow laces. I think he will get the award for best accessory of 2011 – two free 11×14 prints, congrats Teagh!

Mom and dad love you – newborn baby

This day was a long time coming, I’ve known Katie and Jesse for years and years and watched them go through their journey to parenthood. Their dreams came true on September 24th, with a beautiful, wee baby girl, weighing in just under 5 lbs. Viktoria was one and a half weeks old when I had the chance to meet her and she knew I was coming… she didn’t want to close her eyes for a second, the little monkey. Nonetheless, I captured those first few tender moments of parenthood and new life. The smiles could not be peeled from Katie and Jesse’s faces the entire time, I’m so thrilled to show the story of an awesome family that just got a little bit bigger and better!
I asked Katie to share a few words because no one says it better than a mother.
Being a Mum in Kate’s words.
My Road to Motherhood was not a simple one. I knew that it was important to Jesse and I to have a family. I very much believed & hoped that a miracle would happen…. and what a little miracle we have been blessed with. My sweet little girl Viktoria Jane. I truly cannot ever imagine a more beautiful experience than pregnancy, child birth and now raising my little Tori.

Ahhh, I just love wee Tori and these fantastic shots. Katie and Jesse were meant to be parents and it shows! You continue to impress Alicia! Just a note though, Tori is spoken for by a younger man…. Eamon!

Purple tales of golden hair and skin as fair as porcelain – our life

Happy Thanksgiving to my American family and friends! In the spirit of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, I will be holding a weekend SALE!
20% OFF all new orders placed or sessions booked, sale on now until Monday at midnight EST!
*not valid with other promotions

Here is my eccentric and beautiful daughter this week, because every post needs photos! I also wanted to give you a taste of what to wear in the winter, winter sessions can be just as stylish as summer ones.
My kid says the funniest things. The day we went out to shoot these photos, this is how our conversation went;
Me, “Em, do you want to go home and take a nap or go out and take some pictures?”
Em, “Take pictures”
Me, “Take pictures?”
Em, “That sounds good!”
A little background info, I don’t usually give her the option to skip nap but we had been out all morning and were about to have a late lunch so I figured a nap wasn’t in the books for the day. If I had asked if she wanted to do anything else or take pictures, the answer would not have been what it was!

Enjoy a wonderful weekend and please email me if interested in the Thanksgiving Sale, info@altdesigns.ca
